Why Use Countdown Solver?

Oxford English Dictionary

Our letters solver uses a UK English word list built from the Oxford English Dictionary — the same reference used by Countdown itself. American spellings, proper nouns, and hyphenated words are all excluded, exactly as the show requires.

Instant Results

Both solvers return results in under a second. The letters solver finds every valid word from your 9 letters; the numbers solver tries every arithmetic combination of your 6 numbers to find all routes to the target — with full step-by-step working out shown for each solution.

Learn and Improve

Use the solver after each practice round to see every word or number route you missed. Studying the results is one of the most effective ways to build Countdown vocabulary and arithmetic skill — far more useful than simply playing more rounds without reviewing.

Frequently Asked Questions

You choose 6 numbers from two groups: small numbers (1–10, with two tiles of each available) and large numbers (25, 50, 75, 100 — one of each). You may choose 0 to 4 large numbers, so all 6 can be small if you prefer.

The target is always a three-digit number, randomly generated between 100 and 999.

The rules require at least 3 vowels (A, E, I, O, U) and at least 4 consonants in your 9-letter selection.

Countdown accepts words from the Oxford English Dictionary with British spellings. American spellings, proper nouns, hyphenated words, and words requiring apostrophes are not accepted.

Letters game: 1 point per letter in your word. A full 9-letter word scores a bonus 18 points.
Numbers game: 10 points for an exact answer, 7 points for within 5, 5 points for within 10. No points if more than 10 away.
